Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND)
Supporting Every Child at Whitehouse Primary
At Whitehouse Primary School, we believe that every child deserves access to high-quality education and the opportunity to reach their full potential. We are proud to be an inclusive school where all children are valued, supported and celebrated.
Our Commitment to Inclusion
We provide flexible and personalised support to meet the needs of all learners. Most children’s needs are met through high-quality teaching, but some may require additional or different provision—this is known as special educational provision, as defined by the Children and Families Act 2014.
We follow the principles set out in the SEND Code of Practice (0–25 years), which outlines four key areas of need:
- Communication and Interaction
- Cognition and Learning
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health
- Sensory and/or Physical Needs
Our SEND provision is led by Miss K Paterson, who holds the National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO).
What is SEND?
A child has SEND if they have:
- A significantly greater difficulty in learning than others of the same age, or
- A disability that makes it harder to access the same facilities as their peers in a mainstream school.
Special educational provision is additional to or different from what is typically provided for other children.
How We Support Children with SEND
- Tailored learning plans and interventions
- Close collaboration with families and external professionals
- Regular reviews to ensure progress and wellbeing
- A nurturing and inclusive environment
Children & Young People’s Disability Register
This register helps Stockton-on-Tees Council plan services and keep families informed about local support. Being on the register does not affect access to benefits or services, but helps improve planning and communication.
