Curriculum Intent
Curriculum Intent at Whitehouse Primary School
At Whitehouse Primary, we follow the National Curriculum and build on it to create a rich, inclusive and inspiring learning experience tailored to our pupils and families. Our curriculum is constantly evolving to reflect the needs of our community and the world around us.
Our Vision
We want every child to feel valued, confident and ready for the future. Our curriculum is designed to help children grow academically, socially and emotionally through five key pillars:
1. Learning
We teach children how to learn well, encouraging curiosity, independence and resilience. Through high-quality teaching and engaging lessons, pupils develop strong learning habits and a growth mindset.
2. Wellbeing
Children learn best when they feel safe, supported and happy. We promote physical and mental wellbeing through a nurturing environment and dedicated lessons that build self-esteem, emotional awareness and positive relationships. We also have an array of 1:1 and group support programmes that help build confidence in developing friendships, self-esteem and resilience.
3. Ambition
We offer a broad and balanced curriculum that opens doors to the wider world through links with careers, companies and real-life challenges. Our teaching builds knowledge, critical thinking and cultural awareness; helping children to aim high and believe in their potential.
4. Aspiration
Strong foundations in English and maths are central to success. We focus on developing confident speakers, readers, writers and mathematicians who can apply their skills across all areas of learning and life. We also believe in developing the whole child which is why our curriculum is broad and balanced with a wide range of subjects, themes and school challenges taught across every key stage.
5. Acceptance & Belonging
We celebrate diversity and teach respect, empathy and teamwork. Our children learn to value themselves and others, becoming inclusive, responsible members of society with a strong sense of belonging.
Beyond the Classroom
Alongside our core curriculum, we offer a co-curriculum that includes enrichment activities, STEAM challenges, Forest School and opportunities to explore personal interests. This helps children deepen their learning and discover new passions.
